B-b-b-beat Boards.

Hey all, here are some sort-of-beat boards done for friends shooting a film over the coming year. They needed images for a scene that was tech- and CGI-heavy, so I enlisted the assistance of the unimaginably fantastic Brandon Moore to work on them with me (read: teach me how to do them correctly to the best of his ability).

It was an extremely good time and I hope more work like this comes along, especially from these folks. Much thanks to Jonas, Constance, Matt T. and the whole crew.

The scene is a bunch of guys on a raft in a nasty storm. The subject goes into the water to rescue his buddy as the camera drifts in and out of the water with him.  He bobs in and out, watching the raft flip, ending with bodies in the water.

Habitat sketches.

I've been trying to focus on what I'm worst at lately -- environments. Here are some from New Orleans before and during Mardi Gras.

Character Designs!

Spent a ton of hours on this one, I hope it shows. She's a heroine based on a very close friend, which provided me with an outstanding amount of reference. I'm not sure what kind of world I'd like to put her in, but it was a very fun fun, if stressful, project.

Her bow is stretchable, according to her will. I think that's pretty cool.

PSA from the Muppets and Peter Sellers.

This is an unusual post from me, since it's not my own work, but this video and song have been a great way to start the new year. Thank you Peter Sellers and the Jim Henson workshop. And Jim Croche, I guess.

Happy New Year.

I really need to get better about posting on here. Those of you nice enough to come check out my work and re-post it, thank you kindly. You really brighten my day. I'll have some new material very soon. Lately I've been doing odd jobs like being a ranch hand in Texas, a production assistant for a commercial shoot, and a little carpentry, so I haven't been able to get much work done. Anyhow, here's the direction I'll be heading for a little while -- storyboarding and animation.

Here's an exercise I've been working on. It's nearly halfway done. Can anybody find the Steve McQueen reference? Here's a hint: Miles Davis.
Also, the book by P.A. Moed that I did the cover for went to print. I'm extremely excited about this. If you have any interest in historical fiction, I highly recommend that you check it out. Patti has garnered some excellent reviews for her work and from what I've seen it's a great read. And it's not too shabby to look at, either.

Find it here for either paperback or e-book copies. Thank you for your support, everybody. It's going to be a great year.
